How To Create Controversial Content On TikTok
Controversial content on tiktok
Controversial content on TikTok doesn’t mean you need to prepare for an all-out brawl. It can be a much gentler approach, where you’re simply stating an opinion that some will support and others will reject.

Controversial content on TikTok doesn’t always mean conflict

The point is: you have something valuable to say, and if it sparks discussion, that’s a win.

There are different ways to introduce controversial content on TikTok without feeling like you’re setting fire to your feed – and you should! It’s the quickest way to growth.

Here’s how you can break it down:

1. Hot Takes

Do you have a strong opinion backed by expertise that most people don’t have? Share it. For example, I have many thoughts about the ways influencers and brands ignore ASA regulations. That’s a conversation worth having!

2. Debunking Myths

Using your knowledge to challenge widely held beliefs can be incredibly effective. What’s your specific area of expertise, and how can you use it to disprove common schools of thought?

Try this exercise to form the basis of this strand of controversial content on TikTok, which is a question that Peter Thiel always asks in interviews (this came from his book Zero to One). Sit and ponder: “What important truth do very few people agree with you on?” – and build your content on top of this.

3. Taboo Topics

Talking about things people tend to avoid is a sure way to generate buzz, and this forms a large part of controversial content on TikTok. Think about the things that are discussed which spark conversation – relationships, sex, bodily functions. If it makes a certain sector of society balk at the mention, it’s probably worth discussing.

4. Debates

Debating either one or both sides of a hot topic can also stir engagement. Take the recent release of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives – SO MUCH CONTENT about so many aspects of the ways these women live their lives.

5. Unpopular Opinions

Everyone’s saying one thing, but you think differently? Share it. For example: “Most people believe you need a huge following to make real money as a creator – but you don’t.”

6. Exposing Scandals

Controversial content on TikTok often skyrockets when it involves a scandal. Just look at how viral the Bee Better scandal went recently, or the Casze Wedding Dress Drama (I lost an entire weekend to this one). What unique or expert point of view can you bring to the conversation on something scandalous that’s happened?

Don’t Feed the Trolls… Unless You Want To

Lastly, one piece of advice: don’t waste time on anonymous, faceless trolls who aren’t brave enough to challenge your content with their whole chest. They’re just noise.

However, if you’re up for it, prodding them a little more can actually increase engagement and push your content further into the spotlight.

So, let’s get controversial, shall we? It doesn’t have to mean drama, but it should mean you’re standing for something. Just remember: you’re not here to please everyone – and that’s a good thing.
